Go Figure

It’s Tuesday. Yes, I know I say this every week, well because I’m not sure what else to say about this day. We’ve already made it past the dreaded Monday, yet Friday seems like it’s still light years away.

My morning didn’t exactly start off as anticipated yesterday. Number one, I got up at 5:07am. This still gives me plenty of time to get to work, but I have to rush. I hate rushing. I like to be able to sit at my computer for a good 30 minutes, edit my blog and drink my coffee instead of running back and forth through my apartment.

Number two, my teams list of patients was the exact opposite of what I had hoped. EXTREMELY LONG. I believe the words out of my mouth were “ew” when the paper was handed to me. I know, I have a very extensive vocabulary.

After rounding, things got better and I was able to spend my morning in the OR. Whenever I am in there time goes by so quickly. I cannot believe how much I used to hate it. It’s as if I am a totally different person. I think confidence is key. The more confident and comfortable I am, the more I love it. I still have so much to learn and my skills definitely are not where I want them to be, but I can’t expect to be a pro from day one. That’s why every chance I get I try to get in there. I figure the surgeons are used to new residents all the time, so I can’t be too terrible huh? (I know mom as you’re reading this you are thinking stop downing yourself, you are wonderful! I got your number woman šŸ˜‰ )

Anyway when I got out I had a delicious lunchie munchies

Sorry I accidentally had my flash on. Mixed veggies with garlic herb Ms Dash, quinoa blend, and 3 oz shrimp!

I caught up on business around the floor, did notes, and tied up loose ends before having my pre-gym snack

I changed at 4:30 and got ready to go to the gym. Yes I walked out in this…

Tory burch shoes and striped socks... I look ridiculous!

I did change into gym shoes of course

I started with 25 minutes on the stairs to break a good sweat. Then I did a small arm session. Usually I love a long arms session, but I just didn’t have time for it yesterday. This is what I did fit in:

  • Bicep curls, 30 lb bar, 10 reps x 4 sets
  • Assisted tricep dips, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Bicep underhand grip rows, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Bicep pulses, 16 reps x 4 sets
  • Tricep pushups, 8 reps x 3 sets
  • Tricep kickbacks, 17.5 lb weights, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Alternating diagonal hammer curls, 16 reps x 3 sets
  • Plate curls, 25 lbs, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Seated cable tricep overhead extensions, 20-25 lbs, 12-15 reps x 4 sets
come on and grow!
come on and grow! my shirt reads “act like a lady, lift like a BOSS”. Side note I look evil here!

I finished with 15 minutes on the elliptical, stretched and left!

Earlier in the day my mom had sent me a text saying some rice was sent to the house for me. PlanetRice emailed me a few months back asking me to try their rice. I said sure, but had no idea they would send so much! I picked it up yesterday because I want to cook it sometime this week.

It takes me a very long time to go through one small bag, let alone all these! I calculated my regular serving and what they sent is 168 servings of rice! HOLY COW. Guess I am set for a while? Thank you PlanetRice!

When I came home I made this delicious dinner

I also made a huge fluff and had some grapes and blackberries.

Oh and for the 6th night in a row Phoebe got stuck in the laundry basket. I fail as a mother every single day.

Switching gears I want to bring attention to my title. “Go Figure” is in reference to what I have been doing a lot of thinking about.

For those of you unfamiliar with lifting and the “physique” world, there are competitions run by the NPC (National Physique Committee). These are those fitness/bodybuilding type shows where you strut your stuff on stage in a small little bikini. Well for women there are different types. Before you say “ew”, they are not all the big buff women jacked up. These exist, and they are more the physique competitions in which you do a routine. This is something I am not really interested in. There are two other competitions known as bikini and figure. Bikini is basically for the fit, toned, sexy woman. I’m not sure I fit this mold. Yes I am fit and toned, but sexy? No. And while some of you may say I fit this, think more surgically enhanced upper bodies (so not for me).

I have been doing a lot of thinking about training and prepping for the figure category. People that compete in these are hardcore athletes and it takes extreme dedication and will to take part in it. After going back and forth in my head about attempting it, I see more reasons to go for it over not going for it. I kept convincing myself I wasn’t good enough for it, that I could never get my body ready, but then I thought will I ever look back and regret doing it? Probably not. Will I look back and regret NOT doing it? Most definitely.

Most people that take part in these types of competitions prep for 12 weeks (that is if they are already in good shape). This includes your regular workout/lifting/cardio routines (I don’t think I’d change much, I make progress every day). The hardest part is diet. While I cook very healthy and eat clean for the most part the diet that is involved in these types of shows is VERY restricting. Think chicken, broccoli, asparagus, over and over for 12 weeks. Oh and lots of brown rice (I think I have this covered šŸ˜‰ ).

So am I doing this for someone in particular? Absolutely not. I would do it to prove to myself I can, that I can get my body to a place that it’s never been before. Oompa loompa tan and all.

I’ve been looking at dates and August 17th is the first possibility. This means I would have to start prep THIS SATURDAY. I’m not sure if 12 weeks is enough time to totally transform my body, but I feel like I already look great, I just need to be more defined and build more muscle. The other option for Maryland wouldn’t be until October, so I’d have to choose a Pennsylvania date in September.

It’s a lot of work, and not a decision I can just make overnight. You have to put EVERYTHING into something like this. And everyone that knows me best knows my motto is “go big or go home”. If I am going to do something I am going to do it the best I know how.

Side note: these bodies are not something you keep up 365 days a year. It’s almost unrealistic to be this way all the time.

So what do you guys think? Am I crazy? Or do I go for it? Once I get an idea in my head there’s no stopping me! Perhaps I should go see a show so I know what to expect!

Anyway, enjoy your day, stay strong and beautiful šŸ™‚

Maybe all those bags of rice are a sign that it was meant to do the figure competition šŸ™‚ I’ve heard people talk about them, and the only thing they complain about is the restricting diet part in the end. I say go for it! Then you can say you have done it and have no regrets šŸ™‚

I thought the same thing! This was MONTHS ago that I talked to the company and it just came yesterday out of the blue! Totally a sign šŸ™‚

I think you should definitely go for it! Like you said, it isn’t a year round thing. If you don’t like doing it the first go round, then you dontbhave to do it again. But, its worth a shot at least once. You won’t be able to decided how you truly like it until you start doing it. Go for it!

Thank you so much! Since I’ve decided on this I’ve been STARVING lol. It’s like my body knows it’s about to get chicken and rice and sweet potato only, so it wants other stuff!

Do it!!!!! You will succeed! You WILL get there in 12 weeks. It is a good amount time just keep a good diet. Please contact me for info. You want moderate to high carbs for the first 6-8 weeks I gain muscle. Less cardio. High cardio goes for the last 4 weeks. 2x a day. Good luck! It’s a big decision! I have a great bikini maker as well! I can give you info for the cheapest shoes too!
