My Arms Are On FIRE

Happy Tuesday Friends.

One day closer to Friday!

Yesterday I talked about my case of the MEGA Sunday Blues and my awful dread of Monday. Well whenever I dread it a lot, it turns out to be a good day. So I’m going to start dreading every single day šŸ˜‰

For breakfast I had a Quest bar and banana and then off to the OR I went.

During my first case we were doing a breast reconstruction (aka implants) and the doc I was working with says to me “are you okay, if you get tired let me know”- basically a case like this is lifting and holding up a lot of heavy tissue. I said back “I’m sorry, yesterday was shoulder day”. I couldn’t help but laugh at myself. WHO SAYS THIS? I don’t think they fully understood what I meant, meaning I slayed my shoulders the day before. Two minutes in the case my arms were ON FIRE! I thought oh my how am I going to last 3+ hours. Why oh why did I switch up my routine to something killer that made my shoulders so sore on a day I have to be in the operating room all day. I’m not the smartest little thing am I?

I made it through, but I had to stretch after the case (I’m not kidding). We had 2 more little small cases back to back and I was out around 330. By then I was starved out of my mind. I actually don’t mind on days I get to operate. I was able to do a lot yesterday and spruce up my skills quite a bit. A successful day šŸ™‚

When I got back to my office I inhaled this:

The veggies on top are from a HUGE tray of mixed veggies I chopped up the night before and then roasted. They have some garlic and herb Ms Dash on top. So yummy!

I also had my protein shake and then this small side of fruit from Mother’s Day leftovers

By the time I ate, it was almost time to go! I changed for the gym even though my shoulders were done, but I was in such a good mood I couldn’t miss out on a gym day when I was happy!

At the gym I started with 25 minutes on the elliptical then hit arms (yeah I am obviously crazy).

I grabbed a tubing resistance band for some arm work. For these exercises, stand on the band, holding the handles on each side. Stand wider for a harder resistance. This really switched it up for me. I did these 3 exercises in a row and did 4 sets (break in between each block/set)

  1. Bicep curls 12 reps
  2. Upper cut alternating punches 20 reps
  3. Hammer curls 10 reps

By set 2 my arms WERE ON FIRE! Again!

Here is the rest:

  • Tricep band extensions. Band behind back, pull one end of the tube with one hand, and other hand pulls with arm in the air, behind neck at a diagonal. Basically you do a tricep overhead extension with one arm using the band tight. 12 reps x 4 sets each arm
  • Bicep mini curls with 30 lb bar (top half), 10 reps x 3 sets
  • Tricep pushups, 10 reps x 4 sets
  • Plate curls, 25 lbs, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Assisted tricep dips, 10 reps x 4 sets
  • Standing inner bicep curl (side curls), 17.5 lbs, 10 reps x 4 sets
  • Tricep kickbacks, 17.5 lbs, 10 reps x 4 sets
  • Tricep pushbacks, 15 lb kettles, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Forearm curls (overhand grip on bar), 20 lbs, 12 reps x 4 sets

As you guys see I didn’t use super heavy weights, mostly dumbbells, bands, and my own body weight. It’s good to switch it up and work your body in different ways. Plus after my arm extravaganza I’m not sure I could have done super heavy weights!

When I got home I was craving a fluff like CRAZY. I made a chocolate PB2 version that wasn’t super fluffy, but it did the trick. I always want something sweet after my workouts!

I also made a salad and chicken breast (sorry no picture- when I get hungry there is no stopping me) . I had more fruit for dessert too. My parents gave me a lot of leftovers because they went to the fruit stand and had so much. It is so good and sweet and I cannot say no! I think I had too much though, tummy ache šŸ™

Then I heard a little whimper. This means one thing. Phoebe is in the laundry basket again and can’t get out. She does this specific teeny cry when she’s caught some where.

I hope everyone has a great day. I might be taking today off from the gym. Tuesdays are typically busy for our team at work and lack of sleep starts catching up with me by the end of the day. I think I see a nap in my future. Will have to see where the day takes me.

    Nice workout! Those grilled veggies look good! I’ve been craving some grilled zucchini lately haha. I’m the same way, I always want something sweet after my workouts, guess our bodies need to replace the sugars we used during. How does she get in the basket?? Looks like a high jump for her lol. Hope today doesn’t get too busy!

      lol I know that’s why i usually do the fluffs, because I’m like man I need a cookie or something!!!
