My Fridge Staples

Hi everyone!

Since I’ve been focusing a lot on the house and other activities, I thought it would be a good idea to change it up and bit.

When I first started Skinny Minnie Moves all the way in late 2012… WOW 2012… really? , I was vegetarian and then I leaped back into meat since my new hobby was lifting. A hobby snowballed into a passion, which led me to the stage, which led me to the love of my life. Excuse me while I tear up a bit since I am a firm believer in everything happening for a reason.

Anyway, along the way I banned a lot of things from my diet, depending on my goals. At one time I was a clean eater, other times I survived prep on a chemical storm because I was hungry. What did it to do me? Well it made me lean, but it also started to give me the impression that you shouldn’t ban things completely, rather things in moderation. That silly saying! Well, it’s true.

If you want to eat clean 100%, I think it’s great! In fact, my clean eating challenge is still out there and is a huge starting point for most people.  95% of my diet right now is pretty clean, however a condiment here or there to live a normal balanced lifestyle is where I am at right now.

With that, here is what I consider to be our fridge staples right now.

Egg whites. Tony and I buy at least 2-3 packs from our local wholesale store weekly. We panic when we run low.

Salad Greens. I always have spring mix, romaine, and spinach in my fridge. This was on sale this week so I bought a few bags to take for lunches.

Unsweetened cashew milk. I put it in anything that calls for milk, my protein pancakes, and my morning coffee. They now make a vanilla flavor too and it’s wonderful.

Sugar free BBQ sauce. Now this is where we steer away from 100% clean. It has a few “ehhhh” ingredients in there like “natural color”– you’re not fooling me here G. Hughes, but none the less, when you are craving BBQ sauce and do not want all the calories and sugar, GO FOR THIS! We love it on our chicken.

Bolthouse Farms yogurt dressings. I am a huge fan of the Cesar Parmigiano and Mango Chipotle. Gives you the creaminess of a dressing without all the fat and calories. I “skinny it up” a little bit more with the item below.

Apple Cider Vinegar. It thins out the dressing a bit and you get more bang for your buck. Plus, I tend to like a little tang to my salad. I usually do a 1.5 to 1 ratio (1.5 parts dressing to 1 part vinegar).

Speaking of acidity, lemon and lime juice is always in the fridge. Sometimes I get a craving for guac — lime, or if I don’t have lemons on hand for my fish I’ll use a squirt of this stuff!

White Rice. Before Tony, I rarely ate it. Live with a bodybuilder for a year and it becomes your carb source too.

Liquid aminos. The natural soy sauce alternative. WAY less sodium, but tastes just as good. We put it on everything!

Okay I’m lying… we really put THIS on everything. I mean, isn’t that why they have the slogan? I use it so much that every one at work first knew me as the healthy girl that puts hot sauce on everything. Hey, it’s true.

And of course no fridge is complete without…

Tupperware!

So that’s a little snippet of things we use pretty much on a daily basis. Of course we do the regular proteins like chicken, fish, turkey, beef, etc. However, these are the things we live by that just add a little something to those proteins!

For those wondering where we shop it’s usually: BJs, Walmart, and the occasional Shop Rite.

Have a great Wednesday! See you soon 🙂

XOXO With a Cherry On Top,

-Minnie

[…] If you don’t buy it, you won’t eat it, right? Our fridge is packed with veggies, fruits, cooked proteins, cashew milks, and healthier condiments. I will admit sometimes when I get back from the gym I want a treat! However I’ll save some carbs from earlier because I know how I am. A piece of fruit is always a good option too, and what better time than summer? You can peek in my fridge over at this post.  […]
