New Year, New You! 2013

Happy New Year! 2013 is going to be great, I know it šŸ™‚

Phoebe and I at midnight. I had to wake her little butt up! Obviously she was super tired!

Did you make resolutions?

Here’s the thing. I am not a fan of the word resolution. Why? Because 90% of the time they are in the trash by Jan 31st. So instead I made a TO DO LIST. I’m huge on making lists, organizing my thoughts, and I just love to scratch things off that I’ve completed. In fact, in PA school I would make a list every single day of the things I needed to study and how much time I’d give myself to do it in. Food and sleep was even penciled in. Little Type A huh? Sometimes I’d make multiple lists, and I also had a white board listing the same things I already had on paper! I can’t help myself… (oh and yes, I used different colored sharpies)

So here is my TO DO LIST for 2013:Ā

  1. 30 day eat clean challenge (I will discuss this tomorrow)
  2. Socialize more (I really need to do this)
  3. Be confident at work (starting my new job Thursday!)
  4. Train Phoebe (we are working on it)
  5. Complete a 1/2 marathon (I know with my cardio stamina I could do a full marathon! But my knee is a problem)
  6. Have my blog featured in a magazine, or somewhere important/special
  7. Increase my number of blog readers
  8. Start my novel/book (you’re welcome Mom)
  9. MORE WATER!
  10. Learn a new skill (I was thinking something hands on like knitting, playing guitar, something I could do as a hobby)

I honestly think I can achieve all of these things. Not one thing is anything super crazy where you say “theres no way I can do that”. I was going to list 13 things for 2013, but I think 10 is good enough. I don’t want to push it šŸ™‚

Yesterday I went over to G-Mamas, per usual, but this time it was all her girls! Minnie, G-Mama, Casey, Bella, Shelby, and Phoebs. Only the gals šŸ™‚ Bella lost her two front teeth but she won’t let me show you guys šŸ˜‰

Bella and I always think alike with our outfits. I was very June Cleaver…

Probably the best part of the day was when my sister left me with this little quote full of wisdom “You know Honey Boo Boo is my life. That and biscuits”. Gotta love her, right? šŸ˜‰

Later, I hit the gym and as I expected it was a tad crowded. I just know it’s going to be packed today. So if you are a gym regular be patient! If you are a newbie, stick with it and change your life for the better!

I did a little stair master time (please be available when I get there today!), then some abs, then back on the arc trainer. It was a cardio day because my arms were so incredibly sore from my bicep/tricep workout. Especially my triceps! By next week I think I’ll be back on my regular lifting schedule. It’s been a bit all over the place because of the holidays.

Halfway through my workout I realized I never took my pearls off..

This was taken after my workout though..

Yes I was that girl! Working out in jewelry… oh well. I call it the Beauty and the Beast look. Looking like a lady, but fierce as a beast in the gym!

I was also rocking this coat when I left… so yeah that completed the little gossip girl look I had going on šŸ˜‰

At home I dug into the healthy brownies I made last night! Topped with a PB2 glaze. Gooey PB Brownies. Yummmmm. Click the picture for the recipe

So gooey! Hits the spot

Also, I finally was able to get Phoebe’s bandage off today from where her IV was. Look where they shaved her! Tiny chicken legs!

The last item of the day I need to mention is the major change about to come in my meals. In 2012 I decided to become a vegetarian. And while I love eating this way, I still feel like I am not getting enough protein. I can only substitute with tofu, beans, and whey powder so much. Since I am looking to build muscle, I need to have lean meats back in my diet. I also think the diet was making me a tad tired, so after a lot of thinking, I’ve decided to ditch the veggie diet. It’s not that I even miss chicken or fish, I just think it’s better for my body and the goals I want to achieve. I was never a red meat person, so I still probably won’t eat that.

Starting Jan 2 when my 30 day clean eating challenge begins (detailed page to be featured tomorrow), I will slowly introduce meat back into my diet. I have to go slow though because it has been quite some time since I’ve had chicken. I keep thinking what I’ll think when I take the first bite. Will I say “oh my gosh, so good!” or will it be more “meh, I didn’t miss this”. Guess we will find out soon šŸ™‚

Remember, start your new year off right! Get your skinny minnie self in the gym, burn off the holiday food, and have fun!

I am a new reader of your blog and I really enjoy it! I have to tell you something-I was a vegetarian for 1.5 years and ate chicken for the first time AS OF LAST NIGHT! new year, new diet. So I TOTALLY get how you are feeling!! I kept reminding myself it is just food and it will fuel my body. Like you, I did not think I was getting enough protein for the heavy lifting I have been doing, and can get tired as well and I am also always willing to try new things and I think adding chicken and turkey back into my diet will allow me to see physical results that I want in terms of muscle growth and help with recovery. Mentally it was tough for me to get there..it is something I have been thinking about for months… but last night, I just took a bite and enjoyed it all! Let me know how it goes šŸ™‚

I wanted to let you know that I was a vegetarian for the last 1.5 years and ate chicken for the first time last night!!! new year, new diet. Like you, I didnt think I was taking in enough protein with the heavy lifting I am doing and hope this helps me physically grow more muscle as well as help in recovery! Mentally, it took me months to get to the point where I could think about eating meat, but I just had to tell myself…its only food! Last night I enjoyed every bite and am happy to report my stomach handled it beautifully! Can’t wait to hear how it goes for you-I think with more lean protein we will reap the benefits from hard work in the gym! Happy new year!
