Rolling Like Thunder

Good Morning and welcome back to terrible Tuesday

I’m dramatic, I know, but I just can’t stand Tuesdays! They are poo. (So grown up aren’t I?)

Yesterday at work wasn’t too bad. I kept busy in the morning and then as I did some work in my office one of the PAs had some old school music playing. Old school to me is early Britney Spears, whoops. But then I requested real old school and asked for Elton John. No, I am not afraid to admit I love Elton John. I always have. I was the kid in middle school who jammed out to the greatest hits album, and loved the song “I want love”. Remember that video with Robert Downey Jr. singing in the mansion? I still love it. It’s awesome. Anyway, by far my favorite Elton song is “I guess that’s why they call it the blues”. In fact it’s on my iPod playlist right now and I rock out to it in the mornings. “Rolling like Thunder”, how I often describe my life. There are rocky times, and everything is not always peachy, but you gotta keep moving right? So thank you Sir Elton for singing to me in the mornings as I sip my coffee at 530am on my way to work. I sing right back at you.

I’m back on my small meals kick because it seems to work the best for me for keeping my weight at the number I like. Problem is, my appetite is still not fully recovered and by lunchtime, I didn’t want my food at all. I kept pushing the time back and finally just ate it. I didn’t want to go to the gym on an empty stomach and I know when I don’t eat my proper calories workouts suffer. Plus I refuse to be one of those people that run their metabolism into the ground.

I see on Instagram ALL THE TIME “I suffer from metabolic damage”. This infuriates me!Β Especially when I see people asking for sympathy, when they are the ones to blame for it. For those that are not aware, metabolic damage is from hard core dieting. A lot of competition preppers are guilty of it, and yet promote that they are living a clean and healthy lifestyle. This is why you often see those women who get down to a lean machine, plop on 25 pounds inΒ a month and then look like a different person. My friend Alexis did her prep the RIGHT way, didn’t starve herself, didn’t take water pills or fat burners,Β and here she is a month out, looking the exact same as the day she competed. PROPS TO HER! I bet now all those people are wishing they did it her way.

Did it sound like I was ranting? I didn’t mean for it to come across that way. I just try my best to get my point across about needing to eat. I receive TOO MANY darn e-mails saying I’m on the 1,000 calorie diet, or I like to stay under 1,200 calories. This is NOT enough, nor is it the way to do things. That is why all these e-mails end with “I lose the weight, but then it comes back and more”. Take it from me, if you’ve read my bio, you know my last year of college I didn’t exactly do things the healthy way and I ended up putting 30 plus pounds on within 2 months after graduating. Major Fail. Here I am 7 years later still trying to keep my metabolism in check after killing it that year. So please ladies and gents eat healthy and be happy πŸ™‚

Moving on, GYM time was flying my way at 4:30 and I was really ready for it. Uneven spray tan and all, I was pumped. Yes, my spray tan didn’t exactly turn out wonderful this time. I exfoliated LIKE CRAZY and somehow I wasn’t careful enough afterwards and I had a few runs and splotches. Oh well. People at work DID think I went to the beach as I predicted, and they also said and you whitened your teeth? Nope that would just be my crazy dark tan that makes my teeth look “ross white”. One medical student even said wow you have this glow about you and I said “hate to break it to you but that glow is half spray tan, half sweat from sickness”. I’m a witty thing aren’t I?

Gym was a chest and tricep day. I changed and was ready to hit the road.

I got all the way to my car and realized… NOPE no keys. I saw the mental picture of them sitting in my locker at work. Fail. It’s a hike too from the locker room to my car, so I was not pleased… more anger for the gym!

When I got there I PLOWED through a 20 minute stair master session, killed it for 20 minutes, then did this workout:

  • Overhead tricep extensions, 12 lb kettle, single arm, 12 reps x 4 sets each armΒ
  • Pushups, 10 reps x 3 sets
  • Pull ups, assisted, 10 reps x 2 sets
  • Tricep dips assisted, 10 reps x 3 sets
  • Chest presses, 50-60 lbs, 12 reps Β 4 sets
  • Tricep kickbacks, 25 lb weights, 12 reps x 4 sets
  • Pushups on bench, 1 leg in air, 10 reps x 2 sets
  • Tricep cable pull downs, 50-60 lbs, 8-12 reps x 4 sets
  • TRX pushups, 10 reps x 4 sets
  • Overhead plate tricep extensions, 25 lbs, 10 reps x 3 sets
  • Side bends, 25 lb plate, 15 reps x 2 sets each side

I also hit 10 minutes on the arc trainer and some stretching!

So for those of you who wonder the same…. I JUST DON’T CARE who sees me taking a selfie! Literally I will take a selfie in a room of 30 people. Yes people think I am full of myself, but do I care? Nope not at all! Do I get made fun of? All the time! Do people walk in front of them and then I get mad? Absolutely! Sometimes people apologize when they realize I am taking a picture and I say oh that’s okay, I’m just being vain… or I’ll say I’m a blogger I can do this πŸ˜‰ Yeah I use the blogger excuse… πŸ˜‰ No shame!

So for all those scared to take a selfie, don’t be afraid! Believe me, I will have taken 1,000 more than you and I’m not ashamed to admit it! #SelfieQueen

And to add to my story… you know how they say dogs are like their owners? It couldn’t be more true. Later on I caught Miss Phoebe Buffay looking at herself in the reflection of the oven

These grainy pics were all I could get I didn't want her to see me taking them!

If the dog could, she’d be holding an iPhone, taking a selfie of herself… I JUST KNOW IT!

Anyway, when I came home I walked the little diva! She was not too excited to see me because I had to drop by G-Mama’s real quick and she could smell Shelby on me. She knew I went over and wouldn’t give me love and kisses. I betrayed her!

She was looking EXTRA fluffy though, not sure why?

We actually ran into an old friend too! It was Phoebe’s first time meeting Phil, although he has read all about her on here. Good seeing you Phil! πŸ˜€

When we came in we made up, all smiles!

Smiley ladies

Then made dinner! YUM! This is Tilapia with Fiesta Lime Mrs. Dash (Phoebe ate some of it), and then 3 rice paper wraps with slaw, spinach, red cabbage, alfalfa sprouts, and avocado! The dipping sauce is just a ginger vinaigrette from the store. Too lazy to make my own lately… I know, shame!

I know I blabbed on A LOT today, sorry! I just felt like I had a lot to say? Anyway, have a great Tuesday! Here’s hoping this day FLIES! I need a good BACK DAY!

Oh and special thanks to G-Mama today for calling my bod tight like a little drum. It made my day, thanks mama <3

XOXO With a Cherry On Top,

    Helloo,
It’s such a shame that people think they need to eat a very low amount of calories to lose weight, unfortunately it can lead to many unhealthy issues. Glad to here you are back to your usual routine and are feeling better. Your gym session looks a good one, what is your current workout split? Is a body part split better than upper/lower split in order to build muscle? I need to put on a few pounds after being unwell this past week! Thanks Tam x

This is how I currently do things, I tweak every now and then:
      -chest and triceps
      -back
      -biceps
      -shoulders
      -glutes/hips/abs
      -legs
      -rest
(NOT in that order though! Usually 2-3 days in between glute/leg work for that area to rest some).

Excellent blog today – thank you!

And I so appreciate your thoughts on not eating below 1200 calories (or similar) a day. Sometimes all you hear is – that you can’t be size and shape you’re comfortable with, without restricting calories to that level. I really appreciate your sane perspective to keep me sane πŸ™‚

Thanks girl! Anytime. Starving is not the way to do it. Failure will always follow.

Ahahaha glad you enjoyed my tweet! I vow that tonight at Bodypump I will be “full of myself” and just take a selfie already!!! And I enjoyed your rant on too little calories – agreed.

Just wanted to ask how the no dairy in your coffee was going?

    1. Katie

Well I stopped completely, missed the creamer too bad then would just have it with my first cup. Then one day I was bad and put it in every cup and felt like death again! Ugh vicious cycle

Hahahahaha animals do totally act like their owners πŸ˜‰ my cat is always looking in the mirror at herself. I need to be more like you and have no shame at taking selfies!!!! I will keep the blogger excuse in the back of my mind though! I was wondering how Alexis was able to keep looking so good. Makes sense now. I would defiantly have a whole lot more respect for bikini competitors if they didn’t starve themselves. Like you I feel it’s not needed, and the supplements like fat burners are not as well. Hope your Tuesday goes well!!! Have a good back day πŸ™‚

So so right about the calorie intake – I hate it when people are like “I only eat one meal a day”….uhhh NO! And I hate the word diet – healthy lifestyle……big difference!!! Plus working out your body needs fuel!!! I went to a doc years ago….and he was really big on not skipping breakfast – it made perfect sense – your body is going without food for 10ish hours…..you need to fuel that furnance!

    1. Katie

I know I am not big on breakfast, but I do it because then I will over do it later!

Did you really say Britney Spears is old school to you. I should hit you with an old school binder. Lol. Thanks for making me feel super old!

I hear you about the metabolic damage situation. It’s all in finding a healthy balance. Most girls go crazy over food and can’t or won’t control the cravings and that’s what gets them in trouble.

    1. Katie

Well I was a tween/teen with old school Britney.. whoops! haha
